About Strand Business Systems
STRAND was formed in 1989 when the two founders - Dale Gould and Andrew Home - saw an opportunity to develop a software program to manage elections. Working for a local authority at the time, they had extensive knowledge of the practices and processes of local government. Working in the IT section, meant they had the technical expertise to create a program using Dataflex, to accomplish their ambitions.
To add to this considerable wealth of information, they enlisted the assistance of a long standing electoral officer to ensure all aspects of Election Management were covered fully. The resulting program, SEMS (STRAND Election Management System), was an immediate success.
With the runaway success of the Election Management system, it was not long before an Electoral Registration package was being considered. Again written in Dataflex, the Electors System followed hot on the heels of the success of the first system - and formed a duo that have become the benchmark for electoral systems everywhere leading to the one hundred and ten plus customer base that STRAND enjoys today.
With the popularity of Windows based software, it was a natural progression that the most popular electoral software, should reflect the most popular operating system, and the decision to re-write the programs into windows format was taken.
Now all STRAND systems are in Windows format, and indeed STRAND are now the largest provider of Windows based Electoral systems in the UK.
A policy of continuous development assures that STRAND adds innovation to its products and brings customers the latest technology at all times.
The Electoral suite now includes a built in Forms A scanning program that automatically imports A form images into the register and makes them available to view on screen at the click of a button.
